obento - 28 july, 2008

I made obento for myself today too but it's so ugly I'm not taking a picture of it, heh. Also this picture looks too green...there are berries in the top tier but you can't see them very well. I got a different kind of lettuce than I'm used to and I had a hard time making it behave. Oh well, I'll know better tomorrow. :)

In the top tier of the box: 2 veggie gyoza, braised carrot/haricot vert/Anpanman kouya dofu (freeze-dried tofu with Anpanman characters on them), raspberries and blueberries. In the bottom tier of the box: brown rice with shimeji and enoki mushrooms, takuwan. In the top tier of the bowl: dragonfruit, blackberries, mandarin orange. In the bottom tier: miso paste, shiitake mushrooms, aburaage, green onions, wakame.

So up in the top left you've got what looks a lot like boiled blue ringers.

Eh? Shimeji is way smaller than those. :P

I'd never heard of them. I had to go look them up on Wikipedia.

I don't really like them. Actually I've hated mushrooms since I was a kid but over the years I have learned to like button mushrooms, portabella, crimini, and shiitake. Now I am trying to repeat this process with shimeji and enoki but so far I still hate them. Scott's family really likes mushrooms and since I already refuse to eat seafood I figure it would be in my best interest to try to like some of the other crap they eat. Dinner parties with them are a nightmare for me. -_-

They go up into the mountains every year and dig up pounds and pounds of chantrelle and morel mushrooms so every year there's a period of a few months where every fucking thing they cook has mushrooms in it. *shudder*
